What I actually see on Pittsburgh parish and nonprofit sites
Pittsburgh has one of the densest concentrations of parishes, congregations and neighborhood nonprofits in the country, spread across 90 city neighborhoods and more than a hundred separate municipalities in Allegheny County alone. Many of those organizations are running a site somebody built as a favor in 2011, or a template that has quietly stopped being updated because the volunteer who knew the password moved away.
The pattern is almost always the same. The Mass or service times are wrong. The bulletin is a PDF nobody can read on a phone. The events calendar stopped in a year that has already passed. The giving link goes to a page that looks nothing like the rest of the site, so people hesitate at exactly the moment they had decided to give.
None of that means the organization is failing. It usually means nobody on staff has the time or the tooling to keep a website honest, and the website has slowly stopped reflecting a community that is still very much alive.

What I do not touch, and why that is in your interest
I build and host websites. I do not become the system of record for your donors or your money, and I will tell you plainly when something belongs somewhere else.
Donation processing stays with a platform built for it, such as Classy, Give Lively or Raisin. Those companies carry the PCI compliance, the fraud handling and the receipting. If your congregation runs a school, student records and tuition belong in a student information system and a billing provider, not in a website database. What I build links cleanly out to those tools so the handoff feels like one organization instead of three.
A web designer who offers to hold your donor payment data is offering you a liability, not a feature. I would rather be the person who says that out loud.
What it is like to work with one person in Pittsburgh
You are hiring one person, not an agency. I am Scott Rocca, I work out of Bridgeville just outside Pittsburgh, and I do the design, the build, the hosting and the support call myself. Nothing gets handed to a junior and nothing gets outsourced. That is the tradeoff: you will not get a 20 person team, and you will never be handed to someone who does not know your project.
Most builds run three to six weeks depending on how much content is ready. Sites are built to WCAG 2.1 Level AA at delivery and hosted on a private server I administer, not a page builder you rent by the month. You get a straightforward one time build price plus a flat monthly for hosting, updates and support, and I quote it before you commit to anything. If a cheaper option genuinely fits you better, I will say so.
